Comments: Properly speaking, the "irregular shape series" began with works like this and a lot of them can be dated to the spring of 1989. I had been making a lot of line drawings in recent years that often consisted of nothing more than a few simple abstract contour lines (something I still do quite frequently). At some point I carried the imagery from some of those line drawings into the colored pencil drawings allowing the more irregular shapes to take the place of the more familiar patterns of spheres.
