Comments: One of a number of mandalas worked and reworked over several years. Begining with a geometric foundation and the application and removal of so many layers of pastel that the paper itself became buckeled and stained. I was intreaged by the idea that by working with an image long enough that it would take on a natural quality like drift wood or an erode peice of stone. One could not set out to make such an image but its own earthy material reality would emerge from the process of making it.
