Comments: One of the very first of the Patterns in Space series. As I recall a friend had seen one of the early Horizon drawings and made an off hand remark that I should have some planets floating around out there. I never liked the idea of planets as such. That seemed to literal. but i did like the idea of simple spheres floating in space. I have ended up making dozens of variations on the theme, often layer fluid, atmospheric patterns of spheres with geometric patterns and nearly always with some kind of set of bars or frames dividing the view. This also turned out to be a theme that sold well, although never enough to actually be self supporting. I still like sitting down and making variations on this basic theme although it is hard for me to hold a pencil for very long and some of the large ones took 40 hours or more of careful shading.
